Polygamy is not what you think it is. Not even close.

When you think of polygamy you may think of Mormon women wearing prairie dresses, or you might think of a woman in the Islamic religion wearing a full body sock to hide her, well, everything.

Most people have images in their mind about what polygamy is from two sweaty women in a bedroom, all the way to a man holding a leash on two women. Sadly, this is what it truly is in many cases.  Women who have no say, who are property, who are in deep religions cults where they will fight tooth and nail to protect their leader.  But it was not always this way.

The first clue you’ll find is the reasons polygamy was chosen in the Bible.  King David chose it because he loved the women and valued their contribution.  The first mention of polygamy with David was not Bathsheba, but Abigail who saved her people by showing David mercy.  Gideon chose his wives to increase the number of children the tribe had, and he has 71 sons.  Everyone knows Solomon with all his wives, but did you know he was saving lives by doing that?  Each time he married, he made an agreement with another nation to stop have a war and the woman held him to his promise.

But this doesn’t account for all of history or even a small portion of it.  The Sultans married women and trained them to be warriors.  His personal guard were also his wives.  Even recent history highlights the role polygamy plays in society with the Native Americans.  With balanced birth rates as is generally the norm, when a Native American Man died someone had to care for his wife.  In fact, in most cases, it’s considered a “Double Honor,” to marry two women.  However, it’s worth noting that the word, “Honor,” as I’m using it from a Hebrew translation, is not always a good thing.  In fact the word means both honor and curse, at the same time.

So why is it banned?  Simply?  Romans.  I get more into that in the history page and I would recommend reading it as it is very informative about where our current morals come from… but I’ll give you a clue that will shock many Christians… It’s not Jesus or the Bible.

Polygamy is a tool.  It’s a way to address death and lost kids. It’s a way to deal with unbalanced populations, and it’s a way to help women who are otherwise extremely talented to find loving, happy homes.  It’s also a wonderful way to build strong families, strong women, and strong ties.  And going to the Bible a moment, it’s how Jews dealt with widows… and it was, as I said, considered both an honor and a curse to take on a second woman.

This site is not based on the Bible.  It’s based on facts, reality, and solid history.  I’ll use the Bible as a reference, but only as such.  So take a look around, and let my research help you build a stronger society.  The second on leadership is just that.  I use military examples many times, as well as leadership examples like Maxwell and others.  History will show you the truth of what happened, when and how.  Foundations talks about how to take a failing marriage and make it whole again in a way that is not only simple, but self sustaining.  Betrothal, or Betroth, is about how to build strong marriage agreements that last a lifetime and let you grow happy healthy children.
